Having returned home from Slovenia, there was a return to action for Ifan Richards last Saturday lunchtime as he dominated proceedings at the Tyn-Y-Groes Hill Race held in Ganllwyd.
Runners up spot was claimed by Dylan Jones of Aberdyfi, the first of four Bro Dysynni athletes home, in a time of 17.55mins, with Jamie Evans of Bryncrug completing the podium, the 2nd Meirionnydd finisher in a time of 20.25mins.
There was a show of strength in depth from Meirionnydd as a further seven athletes followed. The seven were led home by Arfon Hughes of Dolgellau in 20.36mins, to be followed by Dylan Evans of Bryncrug in 21.14mins. There then followed an exciting tussle as Ricky Francis of Talyllyn just pipped the colourful Tony Hodgson of Llanelltyd, the two finishing in times of 21.42mins & 21.43mins. Nich Bradley of Dolgellau was the next Meirionnydd finisher in a time of 22.58mins with Kevin Evans of Brithdir & Pete Nicholls of Llanfachreth following home in respective times of 23.29mins & 24.15mins. A trio of Bro Dysynni athletes followed in the guise of Richard Griffiths of Tywyn, home in 24.40mins, Andy Unwin of Harlech, beaming depsite all the odds as he crossed the line in true perambulatory fashion in 41.33mins and the evergreen ever improving Sheila Symonds, the Dolgellau based veteran claiming victory in the female section of the event, in an excellent time of 52.29mins.
As has become the norm with the Tyn-Y-Groes Race, monies raised at the event were passed on to the Welsh Air Ambulance.
